medicoSA: Global Healthcare Ecosystem
September is the month of Global Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month, doctors also trying to increase the awareness on this disease.
About 5 million people of the world suffer from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) which affects the lung intertitium (the tissue and space around the air sacs of the lungs).
Senior respiratory physician, R. Narasimhan said that the lungs become stiff and patients with this are suffering from breathing problems, loss of appetite, fatigue, continuous dry cough and also suffer from dizziness.
IPF also misdiagnosed because the symptoms of IPF is similar with the symptoms of asthma & COPD, and it will take a year to diagnose this disease.
IPF has no known causes but some of the risk factors are there which include family history, microbial infections, acid reflux, smoking and environmental exposure which makes the people more susceptible to the disease.
According to the release there has now been a vast improvement in the kind of medication.
